Pack with Foresight and Perspective

If you remember that your luggage will travel and encounter experiences quite different than yours, you may at least be able to minimize the possibility of difficulties when preparing for your trip.  Some helpful tidbits of advice:

  • Don't check jewelry, documents, negotiable stocks or securities, medicine, or anything that is necessary for your trip.  These items belong in your carry-on, accessible to you at all times.

  • Lock your luggage. As soon as you claim it, check the locks.  If anything is missing, report it immediately.

  • If your luggage is damaged, open it and check the contents.  Report the damage to the contents, as well as the luggage, to the airline immediately.

  • Label your luggage.  Your name, address, and phone number should be both inside and outside, legible.  Use and office address rather than alerting potential burglars you'll be away from home!
